The Garden Design Process

Initial Visit

My initial visit is free of charge. My aim is get to know your tastes and requirements. I show you my portfolio and answer any questions you might have about the project.

I explain how I work through a design project, describing the sequence of events and what plans and drawings you will receive.

I send a project proposal to you after the initial meeting. This outlines my approach, gives a breakdown of fees and our terms and conditions.

Site Survey & Analysis

I undertake a complete and accurate measured survey of the site prior to making any design decisions. This establishes parameters within which the new design is created.

From this information a plan is drawn to scale, which includes every detail of the existing garden - structures, hard landscaping, trees, plants, lawns and water features.

I carry out a site analysis to record non-measurable information such as location, architecture, orientation, climate, soil type and quality, environmental factors, features, drainage and other services.

Concept

Your brief is interpreted into a concept design. You will be presented with several draft designs at an interim meeting, which we discuss to make sure that you are happy with the final design.

Small plans showing elevations are drawn so that you can visualise what your garden will look like.

Preliminary costings are carried out at this stage to ensure that the design keeps within your budget.

Master Plan

After discussing the concept design, I draw up the master plan. This is carefully hand drawn to scale and in colour. This gives details of hard landscaping and plant suggestions. You will receive a copy of this, which you can keep.

Setting-out Drawings

These are simplified plans that feature lines and measurements which help our landscaping team transfer these details onto the site.

Planting Plans

I prepare planting plans showing the exact location of each plant, with additional pictures and an artistic impression of the planting effect. A plant schedule is also included detailing the plant names, sizes and quantities.

What does a professionally produced Garden Design cost?

Each project is unique, so it is hard to be precise but design work starts from £400 plus VAT. A breakdown of cost is included in your design proposal.

Payment

A 30% deposit is payable prior to the work commencing, and the balance is payable when you are given the final plans.
